Fill Flash

Bryant just looks so estatic to be my model and be flashed.. by a flash (Canon 580 EX II), mind you ;)

Purpose: To see the effect of flash to fill in shadows when the model is back lit (thus, with a nice rim light) by the sun.

Set up: Rim light (sun) is 180 degrees camera right/left, and the fill flash is close to camera axis (basically right near the camera itself). The distance of subject to flash changes to give or take away stops of light.

With no flash, exposed for the background (BDE).

Flash at -1... basically, moving the flash to subject distance to 14 feet.

Flash at normal. 14 ft --> 10 ft. f/14 to f/10 = 1 stop. (fstops can be used as distances)

Flash at +1. 10 ft --> 7.1 ft.

Flash at +2. 7.1 ft --> 5 ft.

This is basically to teach us how to fill in light. Otherwise, as you can see by the first "default shot", it would be much too dark.

Assignment: Original images received a reshoot due to incorrect distance measurements resulting in the flash exposure being too bright. Turned in reshoot images (the ones above) a day late... results pending.
